Chromate & SurTec 650

Chromating, unlike anodizing, adds a soft, corrosion-resistant and conductive layer to your aluminum product. This special property makes chromating a preferred option in many applications, especially in environments where corrosion protection is crucial.

In addition, the conductive layer acts as an excellent primer for subsequent wet and powder coatings. This enables efficient coating and gives your product additional protection.

Chromating & passivation. When chromating aluminum in an acidic solution, the resulting layers are thin and electrically conductive. The main tasks of chromating layers are applications that require corrosion protection or as an adhesive base for components that are painted and powder-coated in a later step.

Highest quality

Properties

The chromating can be colorless or yellow. Alternatively, we can offer you a colorless conversion coating that comes close to the resistance of classic yellow chromating but is ROHS-compliant. This process is called Surtec 650.

Layer thickness

With chromating, the layer thickness is just a few nanometers and cannot be measured. These layers can become micro-cracked from 80°C, which can impair corrosion protection.

Electrically conductive

Conductive

The electrical contact resistance of chromate coatings is very low. It is usually more favorable than the electrical resistance of untreated parts. Chromate coatings are therefore very suitable for aluminum housing parts that must be conductively connected to each other to ensure the shielding effect of the housing.
